Kuala Lumpur, Sept 22 — Umno stalwart Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has resigned as chairman of Umno’s advisory council, voicing disappointment with the current Cabinet line-up under Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

In a letter to UMNO President Zahid Hamidi dated September 20th, sighted by NMT, Ku Li expressed his disappointment that nearly all Cabinet posts under Ismail Sabri’s administration have been taken up by those from the previous “failed government” despite concerns among the public and grassroots.

“Of course the elected leaders and members of the government who replaced the ‘failed’ administration received the blessing of the Umno leadership,” he added.

“Can they help our party avenge our previous defeat in the 15th general election (GE15) and end the hung parliament? Can we rely on them to bring our party victory in GE15?” he asked, referring to Umno’s allies in the current government, namely Bersatu and PAS.

Thanking Zahid for allowing him to play a role in Umno’s journey, he nonetheless said that his resignation from his “unconstitutional” position would take effect immediately.

The Umno Advisory Council also includes Zahid, Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan, and Ismail Sabri, among others.
