Kuala Lumpur, Sept 4 — Former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin and head of the Perikatan Nasional coalition has been appointed as chairman of the National Recovery Council (MPN), a position that comes with ministerial status.
Chief Secretary to the Government Mohd Zuki Ali said the decision was made in a Cabinet meeting on Sept 1, adding that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has been informed of the appointment.

“This appointment was also made based on the government’s confidence in Muhyiddin’s ability to lead the country’s recovery strategy, in order to achieve the best economic impact and to restore the lives of the people who have been severely affected by Covid-19,” he said in a statement.
Muhyiddin had previously chaired the council, which was established during his administration to monitor the implementation of the National Recovery Plan.
