Johor Ruler temporarily suspends Friday prayers and mosque activities

JOHOR BAHRU, March 16 – The Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ismail has suspended Friday prayers and all kinds of activities including daily prayers in mosques and suraus (prayer houses) in the state for 10 days beginning tomorrow (Tuesday, Maarch 17, 2020), as part of preventive measures to curb the spread of coronavirus COVID19.

The Johor Islamic Department (JAIS) in a statement today announced the royal decree which also instructed all mosques and suraus to be cleaned and sanitize during the 10 day period.

Daily call for prayers will continue as usual but no prayers are to be held at the venues. Other activities such as religious classes and forums are also temporarily suspended.

All other community activities commonly held at mosques and suraus are suspended as well.
