EDITORIAL, Feb 20 – PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has promised to stop racial politics and make Malaysia a mature democracy when he assumes office as prime minister, online portal The Malaysian Insight (TMI) reported.
“My task is to ensure that when I assume office, I will create this nation as a mature democracy (with the) rule of law, and assure the vast majority of the Malays that you will be secure,” Anwar was quoted; playing racial politics himself.
Anwar, who seems to be looking forward take over as prime minister from Dr Mahathir Mohamad, said his government will undertake all possible measures to ensure economic equality among Malaysia’s races.
“I don’t want people to think that this is more political rhetoric. I believe in it, and I mean it,” he said rhetorically.
The Port Dickson MP said the economy will be his priority when he becomes prime minister; As if the economy shouldn’t be any prime minister’s priority in today’s economy.
He said measures would be taken to encourage domestic and foreign direct investments (FDI) among others; As anyone who would want to be a prime minister would have said.
Reiterating his stance on a needs-based policy, Anwar said bread-and-butter issues will be another area of focus under his government.
He said to ensure a fair distribution of wealth, the economy will have to be vibrant and policies must be clear; as any Tan, Din and Hari could have said.
